Our Valued client is a tech company reimagining everyday banking from the ground up to create rewarding experiences and build a community for all Canadians. They are currently seeking a Senior Software QA Manager who will be a satisfactory manager on the team and help get the maximum value from QA efforts. Understand the software development lifecycle at fast-moving startups and tech companies. They will be working alongside other QA and Engineering team managers to coordinate rapid releases in a continuous-delivery environment. 

Location: In Calgary or Winnipeg (or willing to relocate to Calgary or Winnipeg)

Deliverables: 

  • Organize and execute testing efforts for mobile application releases to the Apple and Google app stores weekly.
  • Help the document release notes or flag up when application changes aren’t matching documentation or manuals. 
  • Supervise exploratory testing and bug-hunting efforts performed by the team on web applications, both in pre-production and production environments.
  • Build strategies and implement action (tools, training) on the team to begin automating any highly repetitive tasks. 
  • Company-builders who will get involved in recruiting, training, and onboarding talent, and who believe they can grow entry-level hires into valuable contributors.
  • Ensure excellence in how to capture, write, track, triage, and prioritize bugs in our bug and ticket-tracking systems. 
  • Monitor and measure team performance including KPIs for defects, and hold the team accountable and running at a fast pace. 
  • Perform risk analysis on a project by project, feature by feature, team by team basis to ensure we tailor QA involvement based on overall risk profiles. 
  • Develop beta-testing practices or similar roll-out strategies to reduce defect risks. Help motivate the team; communicate priorities and relative urgency within teams and get them excited to achieve the next win.
  • Ensure day-to-day transparency where all parties understand what’s happening and have well-managed expectations.
  • Hold both individuals and teams accountable and responsible, ensuring they understand expectations in their role and have what they need to succeed.
  • Any and all management, coordination, facilitation or leadership responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Engineering.

Skills and Requirements

​Must have skills​

  • More than 5+ years of experience as a QA professional including a strong hands-on background in automation, tools, and related technologies. 
  • Over 3+ years of experience managing QA or software development teams.
  • Strong understanding of agile, continuous delivery, kanban, and modern development methodologies.
  • Experience with startup organizations or winning companies in the tech industry.
  • Experience scaling up your teams including being involved in the recruiting process.
